This journal entry was written by Dale and Jan at the beginning of their seventh week studying Act in Doctrine, a new book written by Elder David Bednar.
Dale and I would like to express our gratitude for being asked to participate in the reading of the book Act In Doctrine by David A. Bednar. Studying it together as a couple has made us more united in our efforts to grow spiritually. The timing of this opportunity must have been inspired because it coincided with a real life event—a death in our family—and it was a blessing that we had the opportunity to focus on our knowledge and testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ even in our time of sorrow. Life isn’t always wonderful and hardships will come upon us, but choosing to turn to Christ and to outward service is something that got us through each day.
The meaning of the temple, the sacrament, and the Atonement are so much deeper than we comprehend ourselves. Daily study of the scriptures and prayer gives us more significant knowledge drop by drop as we do it with consistency. Dale and I had a strong desire to bear testimony the Sunday following our son’s memorial service. Just doing that simple act kept us in touch with the reality of our conversion, that we believe Christ lives, that he loves us, and that we will someday be reunited as a family.
This was our life experience. The Lord is our strength. We will continue to act in faith and grow in our conversion. We pray that others will experience the blessing of reading Act in Doctrine.
