I spoke one time at a program called “Retreat for Girls.” There were about one hundred young women there, and I invited them to write down questions they had, with the idea that I would answer them. I expected that only a few girls would ask questions, but more than fifty did. As I read through the questions, I was amazed at how deep many of them were. One question in particular deeply touched my heart. One young woman had asked, “How do I get my dad to love me?”
I cried as I read that question, and I attempted to answer it. I didn’t know this girl, and I didn’t know her dad. Hopefully he really does love her and is just having a hard time showing it. But oh, how my heart went out to that young woman. Although every daughter wants to feel the love of her earthly father, I hope that this young woman deeply feels the love that Heavenly Father has for her.
We testify that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ really do live. They know who you are and care about you personally. I want you to know that I have no doubt that I really am a daughter of God! I am His daughter. I really am. I know you are His daughter! He loves us and wants us to feel His love and to be respected. Please feel that, please know that, and please share that truth with young women you interact with. Really, when a young woman knows who she is and expects to be treated as such, there is a power that will be in her life. She will be able to have greater confidence, be more concerned with others, and be truly happy. She will face school challenges with faith that her Father in Heaven will help her. She will be a stronger wife and a more loving mother! This knowledge is crucial to your happiness and obedience now and for the rest of your lives.
Please don’t just know it or say it. Please internalize it, feel it, believe it, and act like it.
